Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 21, 2026
Forge keeps everything on your device. Forge stores all of your workout data locally on your phone. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. There are no servers, no accounts, and no network connection is required for the app to work.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Forge is developed and published by Brendon Pomeroy, an individual developer (not a company). Brendon Pomeroy is the data controller for the limited processing described in this policy. For any privacy questions, contact [email protected].
2. Effective date
This policy was last updated on 2026-06-21. It applies to the Forge app (bundle identifier com.brendonroberts.forge) on iOS and Android.
3. Summary
Forge stores all your data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. We have no servers and no account system. Because your data lives on your phone, you remain in full control of it at all times.
4. What data the app handles
All of the data Forge works with stays on your device. This includes:
- Your workout programs (including any JSON programs you author or import).
- Logged sessions, including sets, reps, weights, and timestamps.
- Personal records and progress history.
- Your settings, such as units (kg or lb) and theme.
This information is stored locally using on-device storage (a key-value store and a local database on your phone). Forge does not transmit any of it off your device.
5. Apple Health / HealthKit (iOS)
On iOS, Forge can integrate with Apple Health (HealthKit) if you grant permission. This integration is entirely optional and is used only to enrich your workouts and to keep Apple Health up to date.
What Forge reads from Apple Health during an active workout, to display live training data in your logs:
- Heart rate
- Active energy burned
- Distance (walking, running, and cycling)
What Forge writes to Apple Health, so your training counts toward your Activity rings:
- Completed workouts (as an HKWorkout).
- Active energy and distance samples for the workout.
- A GPS workout route, for outdoor walk and outdoor cycle workouts only.
In line with Apple’s requirements for HealthKit:
- We do not use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing, or for any use-based data mining, other than to improve your in-app experience for health and fitness purposes.
- We do not disclose your HealthKit data to third parties.
- HealthKit data is processed on-device and stored in Apple Health. You control this access and can revoke it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
If you start a workout on your Apple Watch, Forge streams live metrics between your watch and your phone using Apple’s Watch Connectivity. This transfer happens on-device, between your own devices, and is not sent to us or to any third party. For more detail on how Apple handles this data, see Apple’s privacy policy.
6. Local notifications
Forge schedules rest-timer alerts as local notifications on your device. These are generated entirely on-device. There are no push servers involved, and no data is sent off your phone to deliver them.
7. Photos and files permission
Forge may request access to your files or photo library for two specific purposes: to let you import JSON workout programs, and to save a shareable workout summary image that you explicitly choose to create. Forge does not browse, scan, or upload your photo library or files.
8. Analytics and tracking
Forge does not collect analytics about you. The app includes no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no third-party tracking, and no crash reporting that sends your data off your device.
However, the app store platforms (Apple and Google) may collect aggregate, app-level statistics — such as downloads, crashes, and basic usage — as part of distributing the app through the App Store and Google Play. This is governed by their own privacy policies, which we neither control nor receive identifiable data from. If a crash reporter or analytics tool is ever added to Forge, this policy will be updated to disclose it before that version is released.
9. No accounts or personal identifiers
Forge has no account system. You do not sign up, sign in, or create a profile. The app does not collect names, email addresses, advertising identifiers, or any other personal identifiers.
10. Children
Forge is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). Regardless of age, the app collects no personal data, since all data stays on your device.
11. Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives on your device, you decide how long it is kept. To delete the data Forge stores, you can:
- Uninstall the app, which removes its on-device data; or
- Clear the app’s data through your device settings.
Any data Forge has written to Apple Health is managed separately by you in the Apple Health app, where you can review or delete it at any time.
12. Your rights
Because your data is stored on-device, you have full control over it directly within the app. You can:
- View and edit your programs, sessions, and history.
- Export your programs as JSON.
- Delete your data by clearing it or uninstalling the app.
13. Third-party services
Forge uses no third-party services to handle your data. The only third parties involved are the platforms used to distribute the app — Apple’s App Store and Google Play — whose handling of any app-level data is governed by Apple’s and Google’s respective policies.
14. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect in a released version of the app.
15. Contact
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact Brendon Pomeroy at [email protected].
